Testimonials

Hello Jimmy,  I just want tell you, that I was really happy to have you in my coaching staff in Sydney. You were a really important part of the coaching staff. The work you did with the goalkeepers was outstanding. Clint Bolton became a real consistent player and real personality. With your help he developed his physical skills a lot, but more important for me was, that he went from a “one man show” to a real leader. This was especially in the final series a big factor and gave us the championship, because Clint Bolton played very good.

Our second keeper Justin Pasfield improved his basic skills a lot in one season. Also your work with the young keepers, who joined us regularly in our sessions with Sydney FC, was very effective. That proves, that you can coach players of all ages.

The most impressive point for me was, that you were capable to do some coaching beside your goalkeeper training. The daily training, especially with the defenders (passing, heading, kicking, throw in, tactical training for the 4-back line, etc.) was fantastic. The players loved it and for me it was a big help. Goalkeeper coaches should not focus only on the keepers.

The goalkeeper is now much more involved in the game , than 10 years ago. Your competence and your experience are priceless. Your great personality gave me one season a lot of fun and joy. I found a great coach and a friend.

Hope to have you later again in my coaching staff.

The first leg was in Sydney. A settled confident team of Australians was fixing to notch up a comfortable lead to take us to Seoul, but the Koreans had other ideas. They came here not to respect us but to upset us. Cha Bum Kun, later to make his name in the Bundesliga, and his mates had us pinned. Keeper Jimmy Fraser performed gold medal feats of gymnastics to keep them out in the most remarkable display by a goalkeeper before or since. The match ended 0-0.

I have known Jim Fraser since 1968 . I was his coach at St George football club in 1970 and he is one of the best goalkeepers Australia has produced in the last 28 years. He is the man most responsible to contributing to Australia qualifying for the World Cup in 1974. I had the pleasure of working with him at Marconi in 1976 when he was the Goalkeeper coach. I have also been associated with him for many years with Australian Soccer camps (coaching school children 9-16 years).

I have nothing but praise for him as being a specialist in the field of the art of goalkeeper coaching and have high regard for him as a professional and a family man.

With Cha Bum Keun in devastating form the Koreans served it up to us and probably should have scored two goals. And they would have if it had not been for goalkeeper Jim Fraser who again stood tall.

Jimmy was in doubt for the match and needed to wear a huge bandage around his stomach to play. Jim wasn’t tall for a goalkeeper. In fact he was rather on the short side , but what he lacked in height he made up for in faultless technique and courage. He is now goalkeeper coach at A-League club Sydney FC and one of the most respected and sought after keeper coaches in the country.

I have known Jim Fraser for over thirty years , as a junior player then actually playing with St George and in the Socceroos 1970 and 1974 world cup campaigns where he was almost single-handedly responsible for Australia’s historic qualification for the 1974 World Cup in Germany. More importantly he is a a first class coach in the highly specialised field of goalkeeping working with me a countless number of times during the school holiday periods with the highly successful Sun newspaper clinics , special Socceroo promotions and numerous coaching courses for junior players at club level.

As a F.I.F.A world soccer body qualified coach I have little hesitation in saying Jimmy is goalkeeping coach I have come across here and overseas.
